Hank Von Hell – Egomania

We all love Hans Erik Dyvik Husby right? Who? …Hank Von Hell? Aha! Now your ears have pricked up, that’s right, the former lead vocalist of riotous Norwegian death-punk band Turbonegro is back with a solo project – Egomania! So what gives? Turbonegro were a complex bunch, pumping out a solid catalogue of often aggressive punk ’n’ roll more often that not hitting you right where it hurt! The new offering from Von Hell seems to be a little more mainstream, dare we say little more pop than punk! The album is filled with catchy guitars and rests on solid production but also a slightly concerning sing-a-long vibe. Von Hell holds a catchy vocal but it seems to have little substance, the F.U. attitude of Turbonegro is definitely not present on Egomania, the tracks are too easy on the ear, lyrics don’t hit home and tracks seems to meld into one overall sound that, to be honest, we could take or leave. The album isn’t a total right off and has its merits if you just want something steady to do the ironing to. Von Hell’s Egomania isn’t going to break down any barriers, it’s sitting bang in the middle of the road…unfortunately a quiet, rarely used road…
