INTERVIEW
WITH PETER BLAST
1)
It looks like you've been in the music biz forever; can you tell us
something about the early days?
Yeah,
you’re absolutely correct. It looks like it’s been at
least 2 centuries now. You loose count after a while. Oh, the early
days, dangerous, pivotal, and very exciting and I am glad to be here
to tell the story. I was in the group Degeneration as you know with
Mr. Chip Znuff, then the Blast Factory, and Junebug. It was like having
a one way ticket to hell. And don’t tell anyone…. but
I found the back door. And here we are!
2)
I saw your latest video and that was pretty cool. Was it fun to shoot
it? Any other stuff in the works?
Yeah,
it was a real Peter Blast! We shot to video at the Exit Chicago which
is one of the first and still running punk clubs. All I can really
say is in the sub culture there isn’t many clubs like this left
and that’s a drag! The video is being aired across the US and
It was the first track on the Explode CD “As Sharp As Knife.”
I have just completed an hour long interview for an internet show
called Old Rules New School out of NJ the show featured Material from
my days in Junebug, Explode, and the EP Tracks. Live365.com can be
found through several different countries and IRG Radio Network (IRG.com).
I’ve also just started recording some new stuff which I think
I have a really great line up. It’s myself doing vocals and
guitar and Desi Rexx ( “D Molls”) on guitar, good ol’
Chip Znuff on bass and on drums, my good Italian friend Steve who
you might think sounds like Keith Moon. And of course, I’m out
doing live shows to support Explode.
3) You know very well Chip Z Nuff, what can
you say about him? Me, I love EZN to death... You know me too,
I love em’ to death! I think the new line up is really fantastic.
A whole new vibe, which is always good. It’s a little heavier,
Johnny’s doing some great guitar work, and the new drummer fits
the bill and Chip is Chip…. A monster on bass. I’m looking
forward to hearing some new material.
4)
I know you are not so keen on the Army just like me: when will your
President realize that this war suxx? I
don’t care what countries you’re in you have to support
your troops. People like us will never really know the behind the
scenes reasoning behind this war. All I know is smashing airplanes
into building is nothing but a pussy! And for anyone that does something
bad there has to be consequences. Once you open a door and take a
step in, only God knows how many rooms are in that building that need
to be dealt with. You might not find exactly what you are looking
for but the other things that are found like Kings on a Hill with
all the servants starving to death and pre-made mass graves isn’t
very cool either. Personally, I don’t have a direct line to
the President and we all know he uses many advisers. Whether the information
is good or bad, I don’t think he knows any more then we do and
it’s a shame. It’s hard to tell the truth from the lies.
But we will all know in the end when we talk to St. Peter!
5)
You told me about planning a European tour, how is it going?
It’s
going terrible. I can’t believe everybody wants to write a song
with me, record in studios that they can never afford, and ride the
coat tail. I’m sure I’ll hook up with some guys that have
style and integrity. Until then I’m busting my ass over here.
6)
After lots of years spent on the road, what would you suggest to young
bands?
Hey
that’s a good one! What these younger bands need to know is
that Rock didn’t start with Zeppelin 4. Check it out. Everybody
has roots. The past is always close behind. And don’t forget
it! I have spent an entire life time looking and listening to all
the groups so that I have the knowledge to know one type of rock from
the other. So do yourhomework!
7)
Turn-on's and turn-off's
Well
this is an easy question. It’s pretty simple… wine, women,
and song move me.The things that turn me off …one is honestly,
new bands that are out there that know nothing about the past, wilted
flowers, the lack of wine and women, and broken stings.
8)
What have you been listening to lately?
I’ve
been listening of a little bit of Velvet Revolver because it’s
like old school rock with a little bit of a punk flare. I’ve
listened to some Green Day, but there you go again thinking that this
is punk rock. This isn’t punk rock. Maybe before they were huge
it was punk but let’s face it as soon as you’re in rotation
on the radio you are really main stream. You’ve got to go back
to the roots! It sounds more to me like Power Pop. If you want to
hear some punk go, find the Dead Boys.
9)
If rock&roll is about danger, why are the majors trying to make
it 'safe'?
MONEY!!
Let’s face it, what do corporations know about rock & roll
or danger? You have to remember; today it’s a committee of fat,
bald people in 3 piece suits making big money! Caution to all artist
… Danger… Will Robinson
10)
What do you think of the so called Mtv-rock such as The Killers, Ataris,
Good Charlotte and so on?
Personally
MTV suxx and the only bands that get promoted are promoted by fat,
bald guys in 3 piece suites. Don’t think I’m lying! All
the young guys are answering to somebody. You know what I mean.
11) Where would you like to relocate and why?
I really wouldn’t mind being in your part of the world.
America might be huge but it sure isn’t a pretty story.
12) Do we need a new Malcolm McLaren to have
another band like the 'Dolls?
Well, I don’t know. Malcolm I don’t think came
up with the punk rock image. The Dolls were around before him. But
I guess it’s always good to have a bull shitter and opportunist
on your side. You have to remember there was a certain guy that Malcolm
didn’t care if he lived or died as long as there was another
story to be told… Oh, I mean sold.
13)
If you weren't a musician....
If
I wasn’t a musician there is a good possibility I might have
had the same hobby as George Harrison. Happy to be a gardener and
left alone.
14) Any parting words:
Marco I think you’re a great guy and I hope everyone
loves the CD Explode as much as you. I’ll have a new release
out in 06’ titled “I Ain’t cursed” And I’d
like to thank all my fans for hanging with me till we meet again in
another life. When it’s all said in done in this life I’ll
be waiting to meet everyone in heaven. I’ll be waiting in the
back, left hand corner. But I sure hope to see all of you before then!
Peace, Love and Rock on Mother Fuckers!! Peter Blast.
